Programs

LEARN supports family literacy through a variety of programs. See basic information below, and have a look at our newsletter for times and dates.

All programs have free transportation if needed for families.

Cooking Up Fun

A 6 week cooking program for newcomers to Canada. Learn to cook healthy meal, read and follow recipes, and discover Canadian recipes. The final day will be a potluck where all participants can share food and recipes from their culture.

Where: SAAMIS Immigration, 659 3rd St SE

When: Thursdays 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, starting January 15

Conversation Circle

A 10 week program for newcomers to Canada. The focus will be on practicing English, and learning new vocabulary in everyday conversations while having fun.

Where: Being Human Services 222 South Railway St

When: Wednesdays 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM, January 22nd to March 26th

Express Yourself!

An interactive and self-reflective 8 week program of personal growth through creative self expression,

Where: 5th Avenue Memorial United Church

When: Wednesdays 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM, January 29th - March 26th (no class Feb 19th)

Families Learning Together

A fun FREE home program for families to do together, with weekly themes and materials and supplies provided for participants to keep.

When: Expected start date February 2025

Literacy Building Blocks

A FREE virtual program for families with children in Medicine Hat Public School District ELPs. Materials will be dropped off at your home throughout the program, and videos of activities posted in a closed Facebook group, for you to follow along with.

When: Wednesdays, January 22nd to February 26th

Rhyme Time

A 6 week family literacy program for parents and children of all ages. Parents will be encouraged to sing, rhyme, talk and play with their children, and introduces to various ways they can supprt their child’s early literacy and language experiences and promote a healthy family relationship.

Where: 5th Avenue Memorial Church

When: Tuesdays 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, January 28th to March 11th (no class Feb 18th)
